A new underfloor tandem wheel lathe for machining the rolling stock wheels was put into operation in the Prague Rolling Stock Depot at the beginning of September 2018. It is used to machine the locomotive and railway carriage wheels. After a certain number of kilometres, each wheel becomes worn and is no longer ideally round. The lathe machines the wheel into the original ideally circular shape, thus prolonging its life and saving the train operators' money.

The idea to build an underfloor wheel lathe in the Prague Depot is many years old. Originally, it was to be built within a new maintenance hall. It would have been a huge investment for the Czech Railways, but as the Depot needed the lathe urgently, the investor decided to build a hall for the lathe in a defunct yard of the existing maintenance hall 512. A project for the area management was first created in Sudop and subsequently a project for the building permit and a building order was created. After several years of delay caused by an economic crisis, the Czech Railways invited tenders for the contractor in 2017. The project was updated according to the customer's current requirements and completed to the level of construction documents. After that, we supervised the construction from the designer's position.
