The "Optimisation of the Praha Hostivař – Praha hl. n. track section" is one of the buildings in the Prague junction. It interconnects the complex of the IV construction.

The "Optimisation of the Praha Hostivař – Praha hl. n. track section" is one of the buildings in the Prague junction. It interconnects buildings of the IV railway transit corridor, which ends, according to a programme approved by the government, in the direction from České Budějovice before the Praha Hostivař railway station via Strašnice and Vršovice, with the Prague Main Railway Station.

The construction increases the railway capacity for suburban, long-distance and cargo transport, improves connections from the rail transport to the municipal transport, reduces negative impacts of the transport on the surrounding built-up area and puts the railway and the related buildings and devices in a technical condition corresponding with European parameters and standards. These parameters are based on international agreements with AGC and AGTC to which the Czech Republic is committed.

The rails have been designed for line throughput in the clearance limit of UIC GC. The rail body and the related objects have been designed to comply with the required load class of D4 UIC.

The construction starts at km 175.400 before the Praha Hostivař railway station from České Budějovice where it connects to the already completed structure of the IV railway transit corridor "Strančice – Praha Hostivař rail optimisation". The construction ends at km 184.283 before the entrance to the Vinohrady tunnels. The construction includes three railway stations (Praha Hostivař, Zahradní město, Vršovice) and 1 train stop (Praha Eden). The construction also includes the necessary lines into the neighbouring operation points of the Praha – Krč station, the Vyšehrad passing point and the Praha hl. n. railway station situated along the existing tracks on the railway properties.

The preparatory documentation resolves railway line construction including the České Budějovice – Praha line optimisation on the Prague territory in the Praha Hostivař (including) – Praha Vršovice – Praha hl. n. (excluding) section so as to improve the travelling culture. The section is loaded with heavy suburban and municipal passenger transport. It is also an important line as regards long-distance transport to the regional centres and international transport to Austria, Italy and Switzerland. Regarding cargo transport, the section has a significant impact on transit in the direction of the III and IV transit corridors and connection of a terminal of the combined transport in Praha Uhříněves.

The Praha Hostivař – Praha hl. n. railway section is part of the state-wide railway incorporated in TEN-T in the Praha Hostivař – Praha Vršovice section. The construction also concerns other state-wide railways where the lines Praha Hostivař – Praha Malešice, Praha Malešice – Praha Zahradní Město – Praha Krč and Praha Vršovice – the Vyšehrad passing point are included in the TEN-T network. The entire Praha – České Budějovice (– Linz) railway is part of the European priority project of the TEN-T network – Corridor No. 22. The railway is also included in networks according to the AGC and AGTC agreements.

The construction is located mostly in the existing railway perimeter, which is reduced compared with today's condition. The construction starts at km 175.400 before the Hostivař railway station where it connects to the already completed construction of the IV transit corridor. The construction ends at km 184.283 308 of the existing stationing, which located in the southern portal of the 2nd and 3rd Vinohrady tunnel. The railway optimisation will enable implementation of the required transport from the follow-up lines – the IV transit corridor (suburban from Benešov u Prahy, or Strašnice station and long-distance from the České Budějovice station). It will also allow connection of cargo transport especially in the IV corridor direction (Benešov - Hostivař - Malešice) and connection from the I and II transit corridors to the METRANS container terminal in the Praha Uhříněves station. In the current situation, it is impossible to increase cargo transport due to the passenger transport intensity and is thus relocated to the night hours, which significantly prolongs the transport, reduces its competitiveness and demands a sufficient number of rails to shunt the cargo lines at the time of the passenger transport peak. Moreover, in the required transport, it will enable implementation of a regular fifteen-minute cycle in the suburban passenger transport instead of the current 15/15/18/22 or 10/20/15/15. This irregular passenger transport cycle is currently caused by mutual positions of the fast trains and the slow trains and the impossibility to use the slow trains from the Prague direction via Praha-Hostivař station because the train cannot stop in the opposite direction due to the levelled access to the trains.
